EQ meets IQ

This series of paintings, mono-prints and screen prints explores the duality and tension I feel between my rational and emotional entities. Each is valid. Neither reason nor emotion alone will result in satisfactory work; good art must achieve an integration of the two.

EQ meets IQ is an exploration of formal elements such as colour, geometrical shape (in particularly those of a grid), texture and the illusory effects of layering. This rational concern with form is combined with a delight in and exploration of intuitive mark making and chance patterning.

My intention is to create images with a spontaneous organic quality which remain organised and unified within a recognizable structure; a fusion of left brain/right brain, of emotion and intellect.
